pattern-less doll dress tutorial...
let me get this out of the way… I’m sorry. my camera stinks. and my stinky-camera skills stink… but I photographed the heck out of this last dress I made so that you could make one too… so here goes…
straighten out your fabric!! this is important, and often over-looked… but doll clothes are so small and things can easily go awry… but if you take the time...
tbtk271 asked: Hi there, I was interested in making some dolls and I was just wondering for the filling, can I substitute the fiberfill etc. for cotton or something? If not, where would it be possible for me to buy the things? Thank you in advance! Your dolls look amazing :)

"The Doll That Got Away"
I still haven’t gotten over this particular ebay loss.
This is from an auction that ended in Feb 2007, and I’ve never seen another one like her.

don’t get your knickers in a twist!! (a tutorial)
today we shall tackle the unmentionables… now, I must confess, when I took my first look at this pattern (go here and download the ‘original size’), my brain froze up. I just could not sort out how a pair of underpants could be fashioned from such a shape. but, it’s easy. let’s go… because I use these pattern pieces over and over, I make copies with heavy cardboard and save the...

tutorial... free teddy bear pattern!
this fine fellow is what we are going to sew. first, grab the pattern here: arm, body, head, and leg. the ‘large’ size will produce a 13 inch bear just like our pal above. notions needed: long doll needle, heavy duty nylon upholstery thread, and regular thread, safety pins, small or medium sized self-cover buttons (the ‘no-tools required’ kind), black perle cotton, just a...

tutorial... doll wig. (less simple)
I am going to expand on the last doll wig tutorial here. give it a look-see because I am feeling lazy today and don’t plan on repeating instructions.
I am going to use crepe hair which I’ve bought from my local masquerade shop. it’s what those theatrical-types use to make fake beards, etc, and comes in 12 inch braids. fantastic stuff to work with, but NOT, I repeat NOT especially...

tutorial... tea dying cloth dolls
up until recently I’ve been constructing my dolls from really heavy duty upholstery polyester suede. it is soft, takes VERY well to spot cleaning, and comes in 5 or so lovely skin tone colors. it’s a tiny bit on the expensive side (but I don’t need much) and slightly bothersome to work with, but makes very nice, sturdy, child-friendly dolls.
however, I have found that in trying...

ugh
it has been blindingly hot this week. I won’t complain, however, because up until now we have had an unseasonably cool and rainy summer. and that makes me happy. and productive. for when the themostat creeps upwards of 82F my brain slows down. when it touches 90F, my brain stops.
so, in order to fight off brain death, I closed myself into my air conditioned bedroom and started work on...

tutorial... doll wig. (simple)
today is your lucky day.
how many times have you wished you could apply real-ish looking hair to your cloth doll, but just couldn’t figure out how to do it and needed someone to show you? pinch yourself, because your wish has been granted.
*warning* this can get stressful and frustrating, so take the precautionary step of playing some soothing background music before you begin.
lets start...

I wish oh wish I could be as calm and clever and well spoken as devil-worshipping Chris. I wish I could respond to such hostile ridiculousness in such a perfectly rational yet hilarious way.

tutorial... cloth doll shoes
and today I’m making a pair of lined velvet doll shoes for my cloth doll (let’s name her Lucy). I have a pattern already, but it needs some adjustment. the sole size is fine, it’s just a little tight on the upper.
trace the upper pattern on tissue paper, split it down the center. I need to keep the overall measurement along the bottom edge the same, while enlarging the opening.
